Welcome to Photography in Focus!
We’re delighted you’re considering joining our group. We aim to bring together photographers who are keen to delve deeper into the technical and artistic sides of photography, whether you’re just developing your skills or already have some experience under your belt.
Our group is all about learning together, sharing knowledge, and growing your skill base. It's about encouraging one another through creative challenges such as building personal portfolios and tackling themed assignments. Sharing personal skills in a favourite style, genre, or photographic technique.
How will we do it?
We will meet monthly, actual date to be agreed between members, often at a member’s home, where we will research and discuss photography topics, share our progress within different genres and styles—like ICM, black and white, or macro photography. Honest, supportive, critical feedback will be given in periodic reviews of images taken by group members.
The plan will be to pre-agree a programme of skills development with members that will be each month's “focus area”.
Learning
You’ll find opportunities to learn through knowledged skill-sharing sessions, possibly with guest speakers. We also enjoy exploring the artistic side of photography, from reviewing online resources and photography magazines to visiting galleries and discussing creative approaches to image-making.
Participation is completely flexible—there’s no pressure to take part in every activity. Some challenges will be regular, others more informal, and you can choose to work individually, in small groups, or as a whole group, depending on what suits you best. If ever we need extra expertise, we’re open to inviting professionals to share their insights.
In Summary
Above all, our group is a friendly space to grow as a photographer, build on current skills and knowledge, experiment creatively, and enjoy the journey with like-minded people. We look forward to meeting you and seeing your photography flourish!
