On Thursday 17th July the Theatre Goers Group went to see a production of “The Unfriend” by Steven Moffat, by the Lyndhurst Drama and Musical Society. The play is a contemporary comedy with moments of high farce, where the lies people tell to be polite and very British, find them out. A middle-aged couple meet an American lady on their cruise holiday, who comes to London to stay with them. They find out some disconcerting facts about her, but she proves to be a model visitor, who gets on with their teenage children better than they do themselves!
I particularly enjoyed the comedy of two bolshie adolescents refusing to agree or co-operate with their own parents but being models of good behaviour to their American visitor. The wit becomes increasingly fast moving with a twist at the end. I shall say no more because I don’t want to give away the plot.
