The Importance of Being Earnest

5 members of the Theatre Goers Group attending The Importance of Being Earnest

On Friday 28th June the Theatre Goers Group ventured as far as Titchfield to see The Importance of being Earnest at the Arden Festival theatre. It was a pleasant surprise: spacious and with comfortable seats, a rarity in theatres in our experience. The sets were well imagined, with convincing period features, and the costumes of the female cast members were similarly authentic. Sadly, the men were not so well catered for. One of our group was irritated by their dirty shoes, and unfortunately most of their clothes seemed to come from the dressing up box and failed to reflect the time when the play was set. There was, however, some excellent acting: the relationship between Algernon and Jack was particularly well conveyed. This play has a witticism in almost every line and the actors managed to convey Wilde's humour with aplomb.
