On 25th May the Theatre Goers group once again visited the Plaza theatre, this time to see Lord Arthur Savile's Crime. This play was written by Constance Cox and based on a story by Oscar Wilde.
It didn't take long for the Wilde connection to become clear, as there were many similarities to The Importance of being Earnest, not least the witty and often absurd pronouncements of the characters. Revolving around the attempts - fortunately always thwarted - of the hapless Lord Arthur Savile to commit a murder, the plot was enjoyably predictable, while the characters were all very silly. They were skilfully played by the actors, whose use of exaggeration worked well in creating humour. Slickly choreographed business also made us laugh.
Altogether this was an entertaining production of a play none of us knew but were very pleased to discover!
