Notes on a Small Island

On 26th February the Theatre Goers group went to see Notes on a Small Island at the Maskers' Studio Theatre. This was based on the Bill Bryson book, which several of us had read. The author was played by Johnny Carrington, who was on stage for nearly all the running time of the play. He did a sterling job of conveying Bryson's personality, and often his bewilderment at the strange behaviour he encountered in 70s Britain.

The first half was a little slow, with the humour seeming  somewhat dated, but after the interval the pace quickened, and we enjoyed excellent comic performances from the ensemble cast, who each played a variety of roles. They even treated us to a couple of melodious group songs.

Altogether it was an entertaining evening and I'm sure we will return to this venue in the future.
