A walk from Itchen Abbas

Dave and Jenny led a group of walkers from the 3-6-mile walking group that left the Plough Inn in Itchen Abbas for a walk through the Hampshire countryside. The circular walk took us through Avington, Easton, Martyr Worthy, and back to the Plough for a well-deserved lunch.

Along the route, we walked through quintessential Hampshire villages, past red telephone boxes (with phones!), pubs, and Churches, each with its unique architectural style, from St Mary's Avigton, an unrestored red-bricked Georgian church to St Swithun’s, Martyr Worthy, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

While the route included the Itchen Way, it also crossed many other long-distance footpaths including St Swithin's Way (Winchester to Farnham), Pilgrims Way (Winchester to Canterbury) and St James’ Way (Camino de Santiago: Reading to Southampton) which is the English section of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela – ideas for the next walk?
